About the Author : Andrew Gold
Hello, my name is Andrew Gold and I'd like to thank you for stopping by walkwithme.com.
I think the Internet is pretty cool. As the Artistic Director for the premier Internet technologies and software solutions company, OMIX, Inc., I produced effective web presences for Hewlett Packard, Cisco Systems, Microsoft, CALABRIA, and many other companies with Internet needs.
The highly technical, silly, and amicable atmosphere at OMIX really catapulted me into the knowledge that I have about the Internet. I actually knew very little about computers or the Internet before 1994!
I helped jump start Sunshine Daydream, the source for outdoor adventure activities in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's still rolling...
I grew up in Western Pennsylvania, in the little town of Greensburg, about 40 miles east of Pittsburgh (this helped prepare me for the San Francisco un-sunny days!). From 5th through 8th grades, I had the pleasure of learning at the Valley School of Ligonier tucked in the rolling hills. As a matter of fact, it's very close to Latrobe--home of America's first NFL football game, Arnold Palmer, and Rolling Rock beer.
Rolling Rock was just a small local brewery owned by the father of my sister's best friend at Valley until he sold it and it became very well known and enjoyed amongst the Yuppies all over the world. Must be the green bottle...
We belonged to the Latrobe Country Club where Arnold Palmer grew up golfing because his father was the ground's keeper. It was exciting as a kid meeting
the king of golf and having the pleasure of playing golf so poorly on the same land that produced this legend. Mr. Rogers was a member too. Imagine being a kid and meeting Mr. Rogers!
I attended the Lawrenceville School for high school, lived a year in Brazil as a Rotary International Exchange Student, and graduated with a B.A. pre-med degree (concentration in Neural Systems) from the University of Pennsylvania located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
I decided not to proceed with a medical career (good choice!) and moved out to San Francisco after graduating from Penn in the Spring of 1994. I worked as a technical support specialist for Dantz Development Corporation which leads the industry in powerful network backup software for PCs and Macintoshes.
After the Internet explosion in the fall of 1995 I joined a small startup company called Online Marketspace Internet Exchange which quickly became OMIX. Over the course of the last three years, the Internet has grown, OMIX has grown, and I have grown a whole bunch and that's what makes it so fun!
Well, now that I have bored you with my background, let's see if I can't make it up to you by walking you through Walk with Me through the Internet! If you have any questions or comments, please send me an email at gold@sunshinedaydream.com. If you've read Walk with Me through the Internet, I'd really like to know what you think.
