Internet Newcomer Tested!
Internet newcomer tested? What does this mean?
OK, if you read the welcome page you know that I wrote this easy and enlightening guide for my parents. While my special talent is simplifying seemingly complicated subjects into bite size chunks which the average person can digest, no one is perfect.
That's why I asked this select group of Internet newcomers (David and Nancy Gold, Milton Aronson, Carol Field, Jenny Friesenhahn, Carolyn Gold, and Divanilda Patriota) to read over my initial manuscript and note any unclear areas. I incorporated their wonderful feedback into the final guide and this is what makes all the difference in the world!
My parents, David and Nancy Gold, really helped make Walk with Me through the Internet as easy as possible to understand. They gave me lots of suggestions for how to make the guide talk in clear terms to their generation.
It's amazing how their fear of getting online has dramatically changed into a passion for this incredible medium of communication. I wrote Walk with Me through the Internet for them and it worked!
My 79 year old grandfather, Milton Aronson, was the main editor of Walk with Me through the Internet. He is the Editor-in-Chief of two international trade magazines, Medical Electronics and Measurements & Control. His keen editor's eye helped to polish all the rough areas. And, thanks to my grandma of course for all of her support and encouragement.
They have been married for over 50 years!
Carolyn Gold, my sister, typifies the casual Internet user. She used email and the Web while she was studying at Northwestern Law School in Chicago, and now as a practicing lawyer she continues to benefit from these services.
Carolyn pointed out places where she wanted more information about a particular subject. This guide is not just for my parents' generation!
Jenny Friesenhahn is a good friend who has a great eye for both photography and editing. Her suggestions gave me another perspective and helped me focus on
clarity and completeness.
In case you were wondering, I scanned this picture in from the 1994 Poor Richard's Record, the yearbook for the University of Pennsylvania. As the Editor-in-Chief, Jenny made this perhaps the finest yearbook Penn has ever seen.
Even best-selling authors have a little time to learn how to use and understand the Internet. Carol Field, author of In Nonna's Kitchen, Celebrating Italy, The Italian Baker, and more, gave me some great advice: "Keep it short and sweet."
And Walk with Me through the Internet is short and sweet, although it's not as sweet as a good Italian torta!
I owe my gratitude to this adventurous crew for making Walk with Me through the Internet perfect for Internet newcomers, just like them.
Thanks to all of my wonderful colleagues, production assistants, and other friends and family who have dedicated their time and support to Walk with Me through the Internet. I am grateful to all of them. And thank you too for taking the time to learn and explore. Enjoy the sunshine!
